All teachers in the Douglas County School System returned to work on July 31. At Douglas County High School, teachers and staff members were encouraged to dress in “luau” gear to celebrate the first day of the 2017-2018 school year.

One of Douglas County High School’s partners, Murphy Law Firm, honored Casey Hall at a morning assembly on the first day back. Mr. Hall serves as the coordinator for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at the school and also teaches IB courses. Several officials from the school system and City of Douglasville praised Mr. Hall for his dedication to the school.

According to Corinne Barnes, who helped establish the IB program at Douglas County, Mr. Hall chose to join Douglas County soon after the IB program began, leaving behind a career at Lowe’s Corporate to follow his passion for teaching. “Casey cares about his students and about the school as a whole,” said Mrs. Barnes.

Mr. Hall said that going into education was the best career decision he ever made. “I appreciate the atmosphere that everyone here at Douglas County creates for students in this building. We are truly a family.”

Students return to school on August 7. A Back to School Bash is planned at each high school on August 2; times vary by school. Sneak-a-Peek for elementary schools will be held August 3, 4:30-6:00. Sneak-a-Peek for middle schools will be held August 3, 5:30-7:00.
